Dear WWGA Members:
I am the 2023 Mason Dixon District (MDD) Representative for The Woods Golf Club this season, taking over for Nancy Fairall, who has stepped up to another position within the MDD. Nancy will be the backup rep for the Woods, so thank you Nancy for this!
All WWGA members that have a Mountain View course handicap of 30 (or a handicap index of 32.4) are invited to join the MDD for some competitive golf with seven other clubs from the surrounding states. The MDD follows "The USGA Spirit of the Game" which states: Golf is played, for the most part, without supervision of a referee or umpire. The game relies on the integrity of the individual to show consideration for other players and to abide by the rules. All players should conduct themselves in a disciplined manner, demonstrating courtesy and sportsmanship at all times, irrespective of how competitive they may be.
The MDD dues are $40 for the season, and $70 for each event. The entry fee for each event pays for a continental breakfast, golf, lunch, and prizes. Our first event will be at Shenandoah on Tuesday May 16th, a "3 Lady Scramble" with teams set by the pro, to ease us into individual competition that follows here at The Woods on May 31st. This is followed by "Fun Day" at Cacapon, Wednesday June 21st, a "3 Lady Scramble", make your own team. Cress Creek, Chambersburg, Loudoun, Winchester and Holly Hills follow. You can see the full schedule on our WWGA web site.
Those returning MDD players, I look forward to receiving your dues, and to those who have never joined and qualify we would love to have you join the group to engage in some competition with our neighboring clubs. For those whose handicap is just over the cut off, please consider joining anytime your handicap index for Mountain View is 32.4 or under. Mid-season new members are always welcome. The good news is, once you are a member of MDD, you stay a member. Should your handicap increase, you can still play in events, but the maximum handicap you will receive is 32.4.
To join please send in your check made out to WWGA for $40 (with a note "for MDD") no later than April 28th. This can be dropped off to me (or the WWGA mailbox in the pro shop). As far as the payment for events I will be collecting those checks.
Thank you all! I look forward to seeing you at MDD and here at The Woods.
Mason Dixon Representative, The Woods
