We wanted to update you on our season and let you know about some exciting events we are all working on for the rest of the summer. We hope you will join the fun as your schedule permits. This is new and uncharted territory for all of us as we play golf and abide by the state guidelines, but many of our traditions and events are proceeding and we have even added a few more to the schedule for the year.
First, Ron, Gary and their crews have been doing a fantastic job keeping up with all the new regulations and making it possible for us to play the game that we have such a love/hate relationship with. The latest adjustment has been to put foam at the bottom of the cup and thereby resolving the issue we were having with our balls not staying in the hole. Thank you all so very much.
New to our 2020 season Is a Golf Rules Maven. Robin Kuhns has graciously volunteered to provide information on new rules and explain some old rules. You’ll first receive an email message which will then be posted on our website thewwga.org.
Tournaments – Past and Present and Future
The Mixed Tournament was held on May 2nd. Lynn and Bob Creager took first place, Brenda Merriman and Mike Luckenbach 2nd, Pam Moseman and Keith Casper 3rd, Aimee and David Frye 4th, Marilyn and George Goodman 5th, and Liz Dunst and Jim Bona 6th. Only 4 strokes separated 1st from 6th. Great competition for our first tournament of the year.
Saturday saw the return of the 50/50 to our tournament schedule during the WWGA Flag Tournament. Mary Forte did so well on Mountain View that she had to go back to hole 1 to finish her round. Fran Compton finished second. This year we had a 9-hole tournament on Stony Lick and it had the same number of participants as Mountain View. Marilyn Goodman won the inaugural tournament and finished on the fairway on hole 10. Barb Wilhelm finished in 2nd. Our first 50/50 pot of the year occurred on both courses. Tradition dictates that Georgette Kauhane keep her winning ways, and she won the prize for Mountain View. Tona Childs, one of our newer members took the Stony Lick pot!
Because of limitations on travel and lodging, we were unable to have our Member Guest tournament. Instead we have added a mixed tournament – the Cha-Cha-Cha will take place on Saturday. And we will be able to start as a scramble, have a 50/50 and the Closest to the Pin competitions.
On June 27th the Mixed Tournament is definitely a go! Stay tuned for more details.
All tournament results are posted on our WWGA website thewwga.org.
Tuesday Ladies Golf
We are off and running and there are plenty of choices for you to play rounds on any given Tuesday. We have 9 or 18 hole options for Stony Lick and 18 holes on Mountain View. Each week we have a different game and announce the winners via email.
Our Mid-Season Luncheon will be held on July 14th. We will have a scramble on Stony Lick for 12 holes and reconvene at the Pavilion to enjoy lunch – while still social distancing. More details soon.
Match Play and Ringer Board
It is still difficult to post information on these activities but they are off and running. Ladies who signed up for the Ringer Board received information about their flights and are, hopefully, keeping track and will be able to post their dream rounds when the locker room is more available.
Match Play is also off and running as of June 1st. Good luck to all the participants.
Thanks to everyone for joining the WWGA and working together to help make our season fun and exciting. Come and enjoy!
