Weekend Tournaments

Throughout the season from April through October, the WWGA along with the Woods Men’s Golf Association (WMGA) conduct weekend golf tournaments in a variety of formats. In a typical season, each month, one tournament is WWGA members only and a second tournament is a mixed tournament with the WMGA and a third for WMGA members only.  Play mostly occurs on the Mountain View course, but there are several Tournaments played on the Stony Lick course.  Some Tournaments are geared towards fun while others are more competitive to determine the Club Champion.

Sign-Up Process

Tournaments are organized by Karen Schroder, our Tournament Chair, in conjunction with our Club Pro, Ron Springer. Weekend tournaments have a USGA handicap index cap of 40.4 which equates to a Mountain View course handicap of 39. You may still play if you have a higher handicap, and women often do, when there is a Scramble format.

About 1 month before the Tournament, our Pro will send an email to all members with a link to allow you to sign up for the tournament.

  • The email will contain a link that describes the Tournament format and rules.

  • The link also allows you to sign up for the Tournament.

  • Just follow the instructions to sign-up.

  • A confirmation email will be sent to you indicating you have signed up for the event.

Closer to the Tournament dates, a reminder email is sent showing who has signed up. If you need to cancel after signing up, just call Ron Springer at 304-754-7222.

Entry Fees

The entry fee for the tournaments is $10 and there are optional fees of $5 to compete in the closest to the pin contests on par 3s and $5 for the 50/50 raffle. Fees are collected when you arrive to play. Normal cart fees apply, so please check in with the Pro Shop prior to the tournament play.

I encourage everyone to come out and enjoy all the golf opportunities at The Woods. The Scrambles are my personal favorite and fun for a full range of handicaps from high to low. If you are new to golf they are a great way to meet other golfers. Try it, a lot of new golfer got started playing in tournament through scrambles. I hope you will join us. See you on the course.
