Woods Women's Golf Association

​Our WWGA Board Members are all volunteers elected to serve a three year term. Generally, 2 members come off and 2 new members come on each year. We are governed by a set of by-laws and Board Members usually meet monthly.  A mix of members serve on the Board representing both high and low handicap players, members who play in weekend tournaments and members who only play on Tuesdays. Some members are at The Woods only on weekends, some are full-time residents and others are only here for the summer.  Here is our current slate of Officers and Chairs.

President – Renee Gibb is a full-time resident of The Woods.  She moved here in October of 2020 from Annapolis, MD. She played golf with the SL-18 group and joined the MV group in 2022.  She now also is part of the Mason-Dixon District team. Renee is looking forward to more free time for golf and working with our association.

Vice-President – Leslie Hotaling and her wife, Patti Miller, have been full-time residents at the Woods since November 2022.  A life-long, avid golfer, moving to the Woods and joining WWGA was the first time she played in any organized league - and loving it!!  She joined the Mason-Dixon District League in 2025, and is also the first female Ranger/Starter here at the Woods! Patti & Leslie moved from Berkeley Springs where they owned and operated “Panorama at the Peak” a local foods restaurant at the Panorama Overlook.  Prior to that they lived in Washington, DC, where Leslie served as the Director of Public Works, retiring in 2004.

Treasurer – Mary Lawrence Melvin has been an owner at The Woods since 2009.She has played in Tuesday League play on SL 18, MV 9 and MV 18.  This year she began playing in The Mason-Dixon league.  Mary Lawrence and her family enjoy many aspects of The Woods Community.

Mary Lawrence also lives in Greencastle PA and enjoys working with non-profit organizations.  She hopes you have peace in your heart.

Secretary  – Shirley Marcus-Buckner  built her first home in The Woods in 1999 as a retreat from the physical, social and mental requirements of work life in Washington, DC. Upon finally retiring and running away from the fear of possibly contracting COVID-19 in DC, Shirley and her husband Lloyd (Buck) moved to The Woods full-time in 2020. Since that time, she has been playing golf regularly with WWGA. She currently enjoys playing with the MV9 group.

Tournament Chair – Sue Bowman and her husband, Alan moved to the Woods in 2020. They moved from a small town in upstate NY where they enjoyed membership and leagues at a local golf course. They wanted to move somewhere with a longer golf season and fell in love with The Woods after staying and playing here a few times. They are so happy to be able to live where they play! Sue is part of the planning team for our annual Carroll Valley trip, and is happy to be our tournament chair.

Membership Chair – Jen Adams is a full-time resident who has lived happily at The Woods since 2018.  Recently retiring from the Coast Guard, she now works part time in The Woods Pro Shop. She has been playing golf for more than 20 years and believes golf is an invaluable lifelong adventure offering something to everyone, keeping players healthy, enjoying the outdoors, and being part of a greater community.  She would like to be part of recruiting the next generation of golfers as well as inspiring existing members.

Social Chair – Becky Valasek  - Becky and her husband are originally from the Pittsburgh area. They bought a home in The Woods in 2018 and moved here full time in 2019 after they both retired. They located to WV to be closer to their children and grandchildren in Shepherdstown, Charlestown, and Bel Air, MD. Becky took up golf after moving to The Woods and has since been active in the Monday Scrambles, Tuesday Ladies Golf, and weekend tournaments. Her husband has been golfing for 30 years and has been encouraging her to golf. In the words of one WWGA member, “Becky will make a great addition to the WWGA board!”

MDD Leader – Sheryl Dolin has been a full-time resident of The Woods since 2007. The past several years she has split time between West Virginia and north Idaho providing elder care for her mom in Coeur d'Alene.  She has been active in the WWGA, previously serving as tournament chair, president, and vice-president, and also plays in the Mason-Dixon league.  Sheryl is continuing to serve as The Woods Mason-Dixon District leader for 2026.

 

Woods Club Representative –Sally Johnston is President of PVP and a non-voting member who plays primarily in the Weekend Tournaments.

Director of Golf – Ron Springer, who we think lives at the golf course but in actuality just lives nearby.

Web Guru aka “the Historian” – Mary Forte, while not a Board position, is responsible for creating and maintaining the WWGA website. She is a full-time resident, plays in the Weekend Tournaments, on Tuesdays, in Mason-Dixon District League, and has served on the Board in various positions. She has maintained our website from day one so probably knows more about what has gone on in the WWGA than any of the Board members.  In 2026 she is joined Judy Perdew and Cathy Zito who will work on the website as a team!
