Dear valued members,
It's our third season hosting First Tee at The Woods. We're currently in week #4 of session #1, with 35 students in 3 different age groups.
We conduct 72 individual classes per season, basically 3 per week, from April to October. It wouldn't be possible without the help of everyone involved since we started.
Frank Mams, Robin Mams, Fran Compton, Vince Serio, Jen Adams, Dave Keeler, Linda Ackerman, Becky Valasek, John Valasek, Nancy Fairall, Pete Mulford, Nikoya Reiswig, Mario Pereira, Bob Dolin, Sue Bowman, Steve Warner, Jean Cooney, Bill Ackerman, Rich Minnis, Butch Edwards, Ed Treacy.
Talk to me, or any of these people if you want to learn what it's about. Maybe it's something you would like to be involved with. We can find a participation level that suits you. A common misperception is that we are "teaching kids how to play golf". Not entirely true. There is some basic, functional instruction, but it's mostly fused with the First Tee Core Values of courtesy, confidence, honesty, sportsmanship, integrity, judgement, respect, responsibility, and perseverance, setting goals, working together, and so on. Golf etiquette, far more than golf skills.
Over the past couple of years, we continue to receive generous equipment donations from the community. Golf clubs, golf balls, various implements and accessories, golf tees (which we go through like rice at a wedding). Stocks of "consumables" fluctuate. If you have stuff you are considering donating, talk to me. Equipment storage is limited.
We're not really about fund raising, but small cash donations are accepted. Things for which we routinely use cash: bottled water, bug spray, sunscreen, end-of-session prizes for kids, training grips, nametags, bag tags, hat clip ball markers, and other Woods logo items. Serious donations are always accepted at First Tee West Virginia (FirstTeeWestVirginia.org). Those donations help programs throughout the state. If you are considering something on that level, I can help you get in contact with the right people.
